ERY Learning Disability Strategic Plan

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is asking East Riding residents to have their say on the Learning Disability Strategic Plan 2019 – 2022, which is out for consultation.

The council wants to know what is important to people with a learning disability in the East Riding to allow them to grow and develop as individuals, with the ability to make their own choices in order to lead fulfilling lives, so that they can enjoy the best health and wellbeing possible.

This could include:

The ability to lead as fulfilling a life as possible
Being supported to make their own choices as well as being in control of their daily lives
Being treated with the same dignity and respect as everyone else
Being independent
The ability to enjoy the best health and wellbeing possible
Feeling safe and supported.
The strategic approach is centred around promoting protective factors and maximising people’s capabilities and support within their communities, that will be underpinned by promoting people’s health and wellbeing, preventing, delaying or reducing the need for services, and protecting people from abuse, thus providing a foundation for continuous improvement in learning disability services and better lives for the people who use them.

People with a learning disability their family, carers and organisations are invited to share their views about the strategic plan and offer any additional thoughts that could improve the lives of young people and adults with a learning disability. A copy of the strategic plan is available at www.eastriding.gov.uk

The survey will close on 27 January 2019.
