Paul Roggeman Open Beach Championships

26th Anniversary of the Paul Roggeman European Open Beach Championships promises to be a real catch – book your ticket!

The Paul Roggeman European Open Beach Championships (EOBC) is returning to the East Riding from Friday, 15 to Sunday, 17 February 2019 for its 26th anniversary year, with competitors hoping to get a prize catch.

Founded by its namesake the late Paul Roggeman, the event attracts over 1,000 anglers from across Europe each year in the East Riding looking to net a share of the £35,000 prize fund.

Councillor Richard Burton, cabinet portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture, said: "The Paul Roggeman European Open Beach Championships is one of the most eagerly-anticipated competitions on the angling calendar and sees competitors' locally, nationally and internationally taking part, including from Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands.

"As well as being an exciting three days of fishing, the event helps promote the East Riding as a tourist destination and benefits the local economy to the tune of almost half-a-million pounds."

The championships, with fishing from the north end of Bridlington's North Marine Promenade to the Pilot Jetty at Spurn Point, takes place in association with East Riding of Yorkshire Council's EY Events team.

EY Events support over 40 events each year that help to attract thousands of visitors and tourists to the area.

This year, EY Events will be teaming up with Sea Angling Adventures, providing competitors with fantastic coverage in the build-up and during the 2019 Championships.

Tickets for the main competition are now available to purchase online until Thursday 7 February. Tickets can also be purchased at the event, from the EOBC site office, Sand-Le-Mere Holdiay Village, Southfield Lane, Tunstall, HU12 0JF at the following times:

• Friday, 15 February 2019, 7-10pm
• Saturday, 16 February 2019, 7-9am
• Sunday, 17 February 2019, 7-9am.

A warm up event known as the Flattie Bash measure and return will take place on Friday, 15 February, prior to the start of the EOBC, on Hornsea and Mappleton Beach from 10.30am-2.30pm.

Tickets for the Flattie Bash will be available on the day from the office at Hornsea Floral Hall between 8-10.30am. The entry fee is £10 per person (cash only) and includes males, females and juniors.

Both events welcome all competitors, including tickets for teams and seniors (of both male and female) as well as juniors at a reduced entry fee.

The council urges those who would like to take part to plan their visit well in advance to avoid disappointment.
